Learn Japanese

Lin

Cadet
I'm not a Japanese. I also don't actually learn Jap. I watch some Jap anime though. I do have some interest and picked up little words here and there. I thought of starting this so those who don't know at all, know a little or know a lot can say a little something here.
I'll just start with one word and its meaning

gomen-nasai / sumi-masen
It means sorry
In short even gomen will do

If i'm wrong anyone who knows better pls correct me. But i'm quite sure about it.

Let's all just put a word or two and its meaning so we can all learn ^_^

Those who speak Jap can speak them here. ^_^

I'm going to put up a few more. Here goes...

Hai - yes

Iie - No

Ohayo gozaimasu - Good Morning

Arigato gozaimasu - Thank You

Watashi - I

Anata - You

I'm not japanese but I learnt it for a while in school...

Girls use watashi....guys use boku
Watshi wa ______ desu - my name is _____
watashi wa ______ kirai desu - I hate _____
watashi wa _____ daiski desu - I love ____

Thats all for now...I might post more later....

Ohio! Watashiwa Natari des. Watashiwa Alias ga daiski des.

I learn Japanese at school, this year will be my third year but I'm still not very good! I have written my little intro as the characters would be said so sorry if it's confusing.

Here is my sketchy translation: Hello! My name is Natalie. I love Alias.

Other words you might like to know are:

kuroma: car
densha: train
aruite:walk
ima: now
ima nanji deska: What is the time now?
fudebako: pencil case
midori: green
dokoni ikimaske: Where are you going?
asagohan: breakfast
hirugohan: lunch
bangohan: dinner

So sorry if they're wrong, my excuse is that it's the holidays so I'm rusty. Please tell me if I'm wrong, my Japanese marks at the end of the year depend on it! :P Shall be back with more vocab later on if yah want....

Didn't Sydney say this in The Counteragent?

She did. Actually, she said, "Gomen nasai, eigo ga wakarimasen."
Translated? "I'm sorry, I don't understand English."
Then Sloane started rambling on about his wife, thinking that the geisha (who of course was Sydney) wouldn't understand what he was saying.

Also: when Syd-as-geisha walked into the room, they greeted each other by saying "hajimemash ite"*, which (roughly translated) means "salutations" or "how do you do". However, you're only supposed to say it the first time you meet somebody. (So I guess you could assume that Sloane had no idea it was Syd.)

By the way, the ridiculously polite way to ask someone's phone number: "Anata no denwa bangoo wa nan desu ka?" ;)

(* Space added to counter the censorship filter; the incidental inclusion of a "four-letter word" is a side effect of displaying Japanese in the Latin alphabet. Apologies to the mods in advance.)
