They chilled the gas molecules to temperatures as low as 500 nanokelvins — just 500-billionths of a degree above absolute zero (minus 459.67 degrees Fahrenheit, or minus 273.15 degrees Celsius). That's more than a million times colder than interstellar space.

Absolute zero is often thought to be the coldest temperature possible. But now researchers show they can achieve even lower temperatures for a strange realm of "negative temperatures."

From what I understand about Absolute Zero, it is when all movement is stopped. Movement causes heat.
How can it be measured if there is no heat or movement?
To see something a photon must be reflected from it. The spectrum is partially absorbed giving color. That absorption would create some kind of heat. Even the reflectivity of the photon will cause movement and heat at this scale.
Given that the measurements are done in an almost absolute vacuum, it doesn't mitigate the Earth's gravity or the Sun's. It doesn't mitigate neutrinos or Quantum properties.

If I understand the concept of the Temperature Singularity correctly, absolute zero means no movement at all and the source material winks out of existence. Perhaps transgressing a dimension? The claim that they can lower temperatures below absolute zero is hogwash~

I consider temperature as movement. Absolute Zero is the cessation of all movement. Perhaps the reason why it is so difficult to reach actual absolute zero is that everything in the Universe vibrates at a certain frequency or range of frequency. If string theory is correct even the strings must stop vibrating to reach absolute zero. All quantum movement must also cease. Even zero point energy (vacuum energy)must stop.
At absolute zero even observing it will cause it to move because to see it a photon has to have bounced off it to be detected. Anything at true absolute zero should then be invisible to monoriting.

read the link. 'Temperature' is merely a manifestation of entropy, and breaks down at quantum levels. Entropy states below 'absolute zero' have been achieved, because they tend towards infinitely hot ie minimal entropy

The Big Bang wasnt infinitely hot. It just had nil entropy.

It doesnt go

Absolute Zero-------------nil C --------------------Infinitely hot

it goes

infinite negative entropy-----------absolute zero-----------------------infinite positive entropy
