CoolSciFi's Never-Ending Story Set-Up Thread

Tom

An Old Friend
OK, The way this works is we use this topic to set up a topic to tell a story that never ends.
The story continues in the direction our members steer it.

We have to agree on a Title
We have to agree on a Theme
The Originator is the story guide.
- Sets the opening scene
- Narrates
- Brings the story back on track
- Intros new participants

There will need to be a dedicated MOD to police the off-topic posts

We can use picture and video clips to expand/enhance the story

Someone can make a siggy to link people into the story
Someone can make a story badge to post on other sites

This needs input so make your feelings and ideas on this subject known

So more along the lines of a traditional linear story telling or something more akin to an RPG type forum with people posting as characters within a specified universe?
There will need to be a dedicated MOD to police the off-topic posts
I'll setup whatever resources I can to facilitate progression (new forum, giving somebody mod' access, etc.), just let me know how I can help out.

Thanx Kevin!

The first thing that would need to be done is to get more than a few members committed to the project. This means a commitment to visit and participate in the story creation.

A theme would need to be agreed upon. Without agreement there can be no structure to the story.

Next, We would all need to agree on the scope of the excursion. Even Orion's Arm has limitations to their storyline. We would need to establish the universal parameters of the realities in the story. The 'anything goes' approach will be way to difficult to monitor or moderate.

Once we have obtained a consensus and commitment, Someone would need to start another set-up thread to establish the back story and character arch-types. The back story would need to set the situation of the story, introduce participants and establish behaviors. In that thread each participant sets his/her own character parameters. In the actual story those members must adhere to the personalities and abilities in their character profile posts. Moderators would use those posts to moderate the story.
- Zombie Apocalypses would need to have a specific group attempting to obtain a specific goal. A specific location and specific environment.
- A Space Adventure has to have rules. Can we exist in space without a suit? Do we manipulate gravity? Are there aliens? What propulsion system, weapon types and material needs do we have?

Moderators would need to be assigned a moderation color for edits.
Narrators would need to be assigned a narration color for back-story changes and entries.
Participants should have a color assigned for their characters.

To simplify the grammar involved, thoughts and dialogs would need to be italicized or sub-scripted eliminating the need for so many parenthesis and grammar moderation. Example: He thought to himself: "What am I a target" would look like: What am I a target.

Sam slowly crawls up to the landing as directed. Weapon at the ready, he feels he has been selected to die first.
He checks his load and quickly reloads his rifle.
I might be a target but I'm a well-armed target! Then he sees the enemy and knows this is going to be bloody.

Meanwhile
Back at camp:

Sally is dressing Joe's wounded leg. God he lost a lot of blood! Lie still Joe its going to be alright. Yea, right, if he makes thru the night. Sally gets up and goes to the supplies packs. Gotta find some fluids or he's gunna die.

Up on the Landing
Sam counts three, No four aggressors in the group below. Waits for them to stop moving and plans out four carefully selected kill-shots and Fires!
Sally hears four quick successive shots ring out thru the quiet and then its quiet again. Good, no return fire.

Sounds like you're thinking along the lines of a community RPG type area, something which has been talked about but is not something I am overly familiar with.

Anybody out there familiar with getting forum RPG's up & running?

no porn.
no politics.
no product placement.
I'm interested.
As a rule of thumb, porn and product placement will never be allowed here at this community. There is no exception to the first one and the only type of advertising allowed is that we encourage authors and others to post their Amazon or publisher links (it's a symbiotic relationship in that if an author joins and takes part in our community then there shouldn't be a reason why they can't include purchase information when talking about their works).

Thinking out loud...

As part of a RPG/roleplaying type forum, would it be wanted to allow people to create a second account for the character and then to allow that character account to post in the designated forums? I think that is something we can accomplish to add a bit of fun to it.
